We’ve been following Zola since we first heard the dark, experimental rumblings of her 2009 debut The Spoils. In the last three years Nika Roza Danilova’s sound has blossomed. She has gone from an outsider teenage noise maker to an internationally celebrated electronic artist. Her arrival was first apparent with the release of the 2010 EP, Stridulum, but it was the release of her latest full length album, Conatus, that has cemented Zola Jesus as a major new voice. Conatus is a huge leap forward in production, instrumentation, and song structure - an icy exploration in refined chaos and darkness. From thumping ballads to glitched out dark epics, Conatus manages to be both strong and yet brittle as Nika’s unbelievable voice floats and soars, carrying us throughout the album. Vessel is a track taken from the album and exemplifies for us the voice and vibe of this amazing songstress. For more info on Zola and the album feel free to email anton@trailermedia.com.
Early 2012 we’ll be introducing you to ‘One To Watch’ pop-folk singer/songwriter Gabrielle Alpin.
The second single from Mirror Mirror - ‘Rose Red’ was inspired by ‘Bible John’ a Glaswegian serial killer who found his victims at the city’s Barrowlands Ballroom.
Produced by JD Twitch of DJ duo Optimo Mirror, Mirror marks a return to the band’s earlier works, abandoning elements of their signature ‘full on punk rock guitar” and introducing a more electronic feel.
The quartet’s fourth album Mirror, Mirror received 4 star reviews, describing the album as “A punk-blues thriller” and “a brilliantly bloodthirsty record”.

New Navy are a group hailing from Sydney, Australia. An indie pop quartet who have just released their debut EP Uluwatu, mixed by Lost Valentinos’ Jono M, whose also worked with the likes of Foals, Teenagers In Tokyo, and Sherlock’s Daughter. New Navy have introduced unique and international sounds: frontman Ben McInerny balances sparkly guitars and smooth strong vocals, whilst delivering strong bass-lines to drive the indie grooves to great effect. This is their lead single from the EP and was the most played song on Triple J radio in July 2011. “Zimbabwe” is catchy, sounds vaguely familiar and evokes some good old summery vibes. Here’s the video above. Let us know if you’d like to hear more.
